Not strongly against surgery but in terms of damaging young women’s self esteem, they see a picture of a pretty woman and might feel inadequate that they don’t look like that - when actually the look might have been acheived through plastic surgery or photoshop. Megan Fox has had lip fillers, boob job, nose job, and cheek implants… i doubt she readily admit it. I guess thats what it takes to be named FHM’s sexiest woman!

Tyra Banks talking to a young Asian girl about the reasons behind why she got double eyelid surgery. Interesting how the girl seems indenial about her reasons behind the surgery? Did she get it to look more caucasian? Or was it really just a personal choice? Or does she believe its a personal choice, but in reality its the affect of growing up around white people and being teased and the influence of the media that has led her to this personal choice?

A really interesting film talking about what it means to be a woman in the media and about how we are meant to aspire to the ideal image of beauty that does not exist.

feministblackboard: The clothier H&M is in the news this week and Craita, Ann C., and Marjukka O. all sent in links to the story.  It turns out that they are using a mannequin to display their clothes. Nothing new here.  Except that the mannequins are appearing on their website (instead of their brick-and-mortar stores) and they are photoshopping heads of real models onto the figure and changing the skin color, giving it the illusion of being a real person.
